Wales in Times of Arthur

Cheryl Morgan

We don’t know if King Arthur was a real person, or perhaps was based on one. But if such a person did exist he would have been a war-leader in 5th or 6th Century Britain. The people he led would have once been Roman citizens, and were now citizens of a variety of Celtic kingdoms that stretched from Penzance to Edinburgh.

The wealthy, and Christian priests, would have still spoken Latin, but everyone else spoke a form of early Welsh. Cheryl Morgan looks into Welsh legends, the writings of early churchmen, and the annals of the Irish, to find out what life would have been like for Arthur and his people in those times.
